Tamara Banks will be speaking at and MC-ing the Rachel B. Noel Visiting Professorship in Denver, Tuesday, March 8, 2022.
Ms. Noel became active in civil rights issues and politics which led to her becoming the first African American woman elected to a public office in Colorado in 1965. She was elected to serve on the Denver Public School Board.
Ms. Noel was a professor at Metro State University of Denver (MSUD) where she founded the African American Studies Dept in 1971, chairing it until 1980.
The Visiting Professorship event at MSUD invites interesting speakers to visit the university every year in honor of Rachel B. Noel. The Noel Professor this year is Dr. Calvin Mackie of STEM NOLA, and the theme is Stronger STEM, Stronger Society. The presentation will be followed by a film screening of Great Colorado Women: Rachel Bassette Noel.
